E-POWER Mode

E-POWER mode is activated by default. It allows driving purely on electric power up to a speed of approx. 78 mph (125 km/h) and a maximum range of approx. 22 miles (36 km).

Information
The electric range depends on the driving style, the climatic conditions and the use of energyintensive loads.

An attentive driving style and restrained use of energy-intensive loads have a positive effect on the electric range available.

Switching E-POWER mode on and off

Fig. 68: E-POWER mode switched on

  1. The high-voltage battery is sufficiently charged.
  • Press button .
The light indicator on the button lights up.
A message appears on the multifunction display.

If the prerequisites for E-POWER mode are not met, a message appears on the multifunction display when the E-POWER function is switched on.

  1. Please see chapter “Warning and Information Messages” on page 352.

Status display for E-POWER mode on the multifunction display

The availability of electric power only in E-POWER mode is indicated in the lower status line on the multifunction display.

E-POWER mode is active.
Additional pressure point is available in the accelerator pedal.

Electric driving is possible when E-POWER mode is activated.

Electric driving is not possible e.g. because the high-voltage battery is insufficiently charged or the driver is accelerating excessively.

Automatic interruption of E-POWER mode
E-POWER mode is interrupted when at least one of the following conditions is met:

  1. Excessive acceleration by the driver.
  2. The vehicle is traveling at a speed of more than approx. 78 mph (125 km/h).
  3. Temperature of the high-voltage battery is too high or too low.
  4. Temperature of the electric machine is too high.
  5. Selector-lever position M is engaged.

E-POWER mode resumes automatically when the conditions are no longer present.

Automatic deactivation of E-POWER mode
E-POWER mode is deactivated when at least one of the following conditions is met:

  1. E-CHARGE mode is activated.
  2. SPORT or SPORT PLUS mode is activated.
  3. Hybrid mode is activated.
  4. The high-voltage battery charge is insufficient.
