Driving with manual transmission

Obstructed pedals
Unsuitable or incorrectly secured floor mats and other objects can restrict the movement of the pedals or interfere with operation of the pedals.

  • Ensure the floor mats or other objects do not interfere with the movement of the pedals.

  • When shifting gears, always make sure that the clutch pedal is fully depressed and that the gear is correctly engaged.
  • Always use an appropriately low gear upward and downward slopes. This ensures optimum engine power and braking effect.

Shifting the transmission to neutral
The neutral position of the transmission is between 3rd and 4th gear.

Engaging reverse gear

  • You should only engage reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary.
  • You can shift to reverse gear after overriding the shifting lock by pressing the lever to the left.
The reversing lights come on when reverse gear is engaged and the ignition is switched on.

Displaying current gear
The gear display B in the tachometer shows the currently engaged gear.

Driving with the upshift indicator

Fig. 219: Upshift indicator A and gear display B

The consumption-orientated upshift indicator A helps the driver develop a fuel-saving driving style.

Depending on the selected gear, engine speed and accelerator pedal position, the upshift indicator lights up, prompting you to shift to a higher gear.

  • Shift to the next-higher gear when the upshift indicator lights up.

Observing the permitted engine speed

  • Before the red zone on the tachometer scale is reached, shift to the next higher gear or take your foot off the accelerator pedal.

If the red zone is reached during acceleration, fuel feed is interrupted.

Risk of damage to the engine (over revving) when shifting to a lower gear.

  • Make sure not to exceed the maximum permissible engine speed when shifting down.

Driving with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)

The Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) is a sevenspeed transmission featuring an automatic and a manual selection mode.

Gear changes are automatic in automatic selection mode (selector lever position D).

The gearshift paddles on the steering wheel can be used to switch temporarily from automatic to manual selection mode.

In manual selection mode (selector-lever position M), you can change gear using the selector lever or the shift paddles on the steering wheel.

When driving, the driver can switch between selector lever positions D and M as desired.

  • Make sure that the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel are not accidentally operated in automatic and manual selection mode, triggering unintended gearshifts.
